Over 300 accommodations in Cyprus are available for rent via “airbnb” type platforms. Even though the number of those who opt for this sort of accommodation is relatively low, we observe a growing trend of owners listing and renting out their properties via airbnb throughout Cyprus.
Hoteliers have repeatedly raised the alarm, informing the authorities of the lurking danger, arguing that this type of accommodation does not meet the standards (in terms of safety and hygiene), while they further support that these accommodations are not subject to controls, do not possess the necessary licenses and that the owners of the units do not pay the relevant taxes or fees paid by the licensed tourist accommodations.
