St Habakkuk hearing postponed

Relevant News

The hearing for the request to cancel the €807,000 foreclosure orders for the monks of the Monastery of Sant Habakkuk has been postponed until May 30 for scheduling.

The postponement was granted by the Nicosia District Court to allow the request to be served to three more parties, namely the Hellenic Bank, the Bank of Cyprus, and the Land Registry.

Involved personally in the proceedings is bishop Isaiah of Tamasos, represented by lawyer Elias Stefanou.

The monks’ request, along with two citizens who claim ownership of the money, was only served to the Legal Service and MOKAS, while according to the court, it should have also been served to other interested parties.

The court requested that any objections to the monks’ request be filed within eight days before May 30.

Notably present in court were the acting abbot of the monastery, Nektarios, other monks, and the two citizen applicants who claim ownership of the money.
