Relevant News

Akapnou is a beautiful little village with rich vegetation built in the eastern part of Limassol.

One of the most well-known areas of the village, in the northwest of the housing, is called “Kampos (flatland) tis Regaenas”. It was there where Regas and Regaena had the idea to transfer water from the River Vasilopotamos to the flatland with the help of a water channel. However, this idea was not realized because the moment everything was ready for the construction of the channel to begin, the Saracens arrived on the island. In fact, Regas was informed that their ships were so many that they looked like a flock. Upon finding out about that, Regas and Regaena decided to abandon the area after hiding their treasures in the flatland (Kampos). However, while they were leaving the village riding their horses, Regaena’s hair got caught on a tree and she fell in a stream and was fatally injured. Since then the stream has been known as the Stream of Regaena.

Churches

In the village there are three churches. Located in the centre of the village is the church of Agios Georgios, while towards the southeast is the chapel of Apostle Andreas, with the church of “Panagia tou Kampou” being towards the west. What is noteworthy is that there are many testimonies concerning miracles performed by “Panagia tou Kampou”.
