I wonder to what extent the two monks under accusation at the Monastery of Saint Habakkuk realise that by challenging all their control procedures by the Holy Synod, they are not only damaging their case in the eyes of the Synodal authorities but also in the eyes of the public.
In the sense that everyone is now starting to think that the goal is to buy time and muddy the waters so that in the end, whatever decision is made against them can be disputed. But to what end?
It’s a given that neither public opinion nor the media and social networking platforms will decide whether the two monks are guilty or victims of a plot.
Of course, there’s also the other possibility.
That there’s a deliberate delay in the proceedings before the Church’s institutions, hoping that anything incriminating against bishop Tamassos Isaiah from the Police will emerge to be used as an alibi by the monks themselves.
But even if such a thing happens, it doesn’t negate the accusations against them.
