The reactions to yesterday’s front page of Philelefheros, in which we revealed the content of a 16-page police order related to a 60-day operation to prevent and combat organised crime, were varied.
Some commented that we are warning the underworld.
It seems some got confused because in this case, no specific police operation was pre-announced that should remain secret before its completion.
We are talking about a police order issued on 20/3, which began to be implemented on 22/3, and our revelation about the philosophy of the order and its main provisions was on 26/3.
We neither provided information about the exact operations nor about the hours specific units would patrol.
So, what warning to the underworld are they talking about for something that has already happened and has already been felt?
We also heard somewhere that the 16-page order leaked to the press from the police leadership.
This will make some laugh at headquarters. At least four times in recent years, we have been officially asked by the police to testify about the origin of classified information that we were aware of (and in all four instances, we invoked journalistic confidentiality).
However, most forgot the most important thing. By publicising this, we not only do not preempt the outcome of the 60-day operation (emphasising its duration), but we also hold the police accountable for the effectiveness of their actions.
