The Cyprus Red Cross Society – Nicosia Branch and the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia are co-organising the educational event ‘Making kites with Ledra and Ledros’ for a good cause.
The event includes a rich programme of activities and will take place at Eleftheria Square on Saturday 9 March 2024 from 10.00 in the morning until 15.00 in the afternoon.
Ledra and Ledros, the playful mascots of the Leventis Municipal Museum of Nicosia, are expecting young and old to come and visit the specially prepared educational stations for a day full of imagination and creativity.
The educational stations:
- Demonstration of the creation of a traditional ‘petasi’ kite. The participants will have the opportunity to acquire the special kite-making kit, which includes all the materials and instructions to make one kite. Experienced Museum officers will be with you to provide all the essential instructions to create your kite at home!
- ‘Lady Lent (“Kyra Sarakosti”): A unique calendar!’ As the period of Lent is approaching our young friends, with the guidance of the Museum officers, will craft their own figure of Lady Lent with dough.
The educational station for learning how to make a kite will be held in three time slots: 10.30-11.30, 11.30-12.30 and 13.30-14.30, while the ‘Lady Lent (“Kyra Sarakosti”): A unique calendar!’ educational station will operate for our young friends from 10.30 to 14.30.
Music will not be absent from this exciting event: we will have the Sfera 96.8 radio station with us with a live link from 10.00 to 12.00, while the baton will be passed to the exceptional children’s choir of the Astrinidio Odio Cyprus from 12.30 to 13.00.
We will be introduced to traditional dancing rhythms through the great mastery of young and old from the Vourka Music and Dance Folklore Group throughout the whole event.
The event will be enhanced by the presence of the Cyprus Association on Books for Young People. In our company to narrate stories and open new windows in the magical world of books, we will have with us in three time slots:
- 11.00-11.30: Charalambos Demetriou, educator and literature workshop facilitator, member of the Board of the Cyprus Association on Books for Young People
- 11.30-12.00: Elena Perikleous, writer, President of the Board of the Cyprus Association on Books for Young People
- 14.00-14.30: Despina Irakleous, writer
Fee: €25 (per child / includes participation and materials at the educational stations for the creation of the kite and ‘Lady Lent’)
Reservations are not required.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Cyprus Red Cross Society – Nicosia Branch to support their ‘Easter Love Parcels & Coupons’ programme.
