The Cyprus Psychologists Association has urged its members on Thursday to contribute ‘in an operational way’ to the management of the Coronavirus crisis by offering relevant advice to their clients, CNA reports.

The association urges psychologists to keep themselves informed from reliable sources on the development of the virus in order to substantially contribute to the perception of the crisis.

Psychologists were advised to devote time discussing the concerns of people reaching out to them regarding the virus and everything surrounding it.

They were also prompted to consult their clients on the dangers of fake news and urge them to look for reliable sources of information on the virus.

“Fake news, misinformation and panic are the primary characteristics of such situations,” the announcement said.

Lastly, it reminded that children should be told the truth in accordance with the relevant psychological stages in a child’s development.

It also urged members to focus on their own care and adopt alternative models for seeing clients like through video conference.
