One more person has died, a woman who was being treated at the ICU of Limassol Hospital, the Health Ministry said on Thursday, and another 36 people have tested positive for coronavirus.
This brings the total number of deaths to ten and the total number of confirmed cases to 356 (including ten in the British Bases).
The people who died so far are eight men and two women. The average age is 69. Eight, including the 77 year old woman who died today, had underlying health problems.
According to the update from the Ministry of Health, the new confirmed cases are:
- 24 found through tracing of the contacts of people who were found positive to Coronavirus
- 1 who had returned from a trip abroad
- 11 whose history is being investigated
From the 32 cases announced yesterday that were being investigated, 22 have been traced back to contacts and 10 are still being investigated.
Dr Leontios Kostrikis said that 227 of the 356 confirmed cases are from contact with other people found positive to Coronavirus.
8,176 tests have been conducted so far by CING, the microbiology department at Nicosia Hospital and by private labs.
27 people have so far been cured from the virus.
Dr Leontios Kostrikis said that even though today’s positive samples are fewer compared to yesterday, 36 is still not a small number and urged to continue to adhere to measures.
“What we build today is an investment for our health tomorrow,” he said.
Dr Marios Loizou said that 35 people are currently being treated at Famagusta referral hospital, 5 of whom in the increased care unit, and 3 were discharged today.
9 people are intubated in ICUs; 2 in the ICU of Limassol Hospital and 7 in the ICU of Nicosia Hospital. The condition of these patients was described as stable but critical.
7 more Covid-19 patients are being treated in other hospitals.
Loizou said that a ‘ray of hope’ emerged today with an ICU patient at Limassol Hospital removed from intubation, who is still being treated in the unit in a stable condition.
He also stressed the importance of maintaining a safe distance from others in the workplace.
“There is no point in staying home when in the workplace we don’t keep a safe distance or fail to follow hygiene rules. Keeping distances is even more crucial for staff in the healthcare profession,” he said.
