New procedures for registering and microchipping dogs

Relevant News

The Ministry of Agriculture is changing its procedure for registering and microchipping dogs, Phileleftheros reported today.

According to a Ministry announcement, this is done in order to reduce the amount of stray dogs.

Dogs will be now registered in the Dog Register electronically only by the vet who implanted their microchip.

Also, safeguards will be put in place, under which the Ministry will be aware of who imported the microchip and which vet implanted it on the dog.

These measures are aimed at reducing cases where the owner of a microchipped stray dog cannot be tracked because the unique number of the microchip was not registered in the National Dog Registry.
