Relevant News

New decisions are expected to be taken during a meeting on Monday evening under President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades with the epidemiological advisory team, in the presence of Minister of Health Constantinos Ioannou, after a record number of cases over the weekend.

The highest ever number of cases in Cyprus was recorded on Saturday, when 314 persons tested positive, including a cluster of 92 cases in a Nicosia abattoir. Another 116 cases were reported on Sunday. Furthermore, 77 patients are currently hospitalised, the highest number so far.

Government Spokesman Kyriacos Koushos said on Sunday that President Anastasiades had convened a meeting for Monday at 1900 local time, to assess the situation and take the necessary decisions.

Earlier, member of the scientific team, professor of microbiology and molecular virology at the Medical School of the University of Cyprus, Petros Karayiannis, told CNA that if the number of cases did not drop, the next step would be stricter measures or a lockdown.
