Foreign Ministers of Greece and Spain, Nikos Dendias and Arancha González Laya, respectively, pay working visits on Wednesday to Cyprus, during which they will hold separate talks with their Cypriot counterpart Nikos Christodoulides, focusing among other issues on EU-Turkey relations, in view of Ankara’s Turkish provocations in the Eastern Mediterranean.

A press release issued by the Foreign Ministry said that Christodoulides will have in the morning a private meeting with the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, after which expanded deliberations will take place, with the participation of delegations of both countries’ ministries.

During the talks, bilateral relations between Cyprus and Spain will be reviewed and concrete ways to further enhance them will be examined, while the two sides will also discuss developments in the East Med and EU-Turkey relations, in light of the ongoing illegal activities of Turkey, and especially in view of the relevant discussion scheduled to take place during the forthcoming European Council.

Additionally, they will discuss issues of common European, Mediterranean and regional interest and will examine concrete ways of enhancing bilateral cooperation within this framework as well.

After their talks, Christodoulides and González Laya will make statements to the media.

Earlier in the day the Spanish FM will be received by Cyprus’ President Nikos Anastasiades.

In the afternoon, Christodoulides will meet with his Greek counterpart who will visit Cyprus in the framework of frequent contacts between Nicosia and Athens.

The two Ministers will initially have a tête-à-tête meeting, after which they will attend expanded deliberations with the participation of both ministries’ officers.

Discussions will focus on the coordination of activities and actions in view of the strategic discussion about Turkey that will take place in the framework of the forthcoming EU Council, in light of the escalation of Turkish unlawful behaviour in the East Med.

After their deliberations, Christodoulides and Dendias will make statements to the media.
