Larnaca district court on Wednesday ordered a taxi driver caught driving under the influence of alcohol last night to be jailed for 15 days and banned him from driving for three months.

According to the facts of the case, as the 49 year old taxi driver was driving on Spyros Kyprianou Avenue at around 11 pm on Tuesday night, he collided with the car in front of him that had stopped at the traffic lights.

The second car, driven by a 26 year old, then collided with a police vehicle.

All three cars sustained damage while the police officer and the driver of the second car were slightly injured, taken to the acciodent and emergency ward at Larnaca Hospital where they were administered first aid and discharged.

All three drivers underwent an alco test. The 26 year old was found to be below the legal limit while the police officer had a reading of zero.

However the results of the 49 year old were so much above the limit that he was taken to Larnaca traffic police headquarters where the test gave a final reading  of 123mg%.

He was arrested and remained in police custody until today where he appeared in court which ordered he be jailed immediately.

Police are drafting a letter to the director of the department of road transport to revoke both his driving licence and his professional licence, the Cyprus News Agency said.
