A group of individuals allegedly trespassed on an organic farm in Akaki, tore down fencing, and cut down multiple cypress trees to gather firewood for ‘lambratzia’ Easter bonfires.

The property, owned by Elena Christophorou, houses an olive grove, a citrus orchard, and various animals including donkeys, geese, and chickens.

Christophorou told philenews and in-cyprus that some of the cypress trees were aged between 50-80 years old.

The incident, which occurred early Monday morning, marked the second time in three weeks that trees had been felled on the farm.

Christophorou has filed a police complaint for trespassing, vandalism, and the destruction of protected trees.

She expressed concern about the potential danger posed by the damaged fence, fearing for the safety of her animals and the risk of accidents on the nearby Nicosia-Troodos road.

“My biggest concern is what would have happened if the donkeys had gotten out and caused an accident, or if the chickens had escaped and wandered onto the road,” Christophorou said.

“Have these young people thought about what would happen if, in their attempt to cut down a cypress tree, it fell on them and crushed them?” she added.
