Young artists shine in Cyprus’ school theatre competitions

Relevant News

With two ceremonies organised at the Central Stage of Evi Gavrielidis Hall, in the Theatrical Organization of Cyprus (THOC) Building in Nicosia, the organisers of the Cyprus School Theatre Competitions (Ministry of Education and THOC) are grandly concluding this year’s event.

The competitions serve as an opportunity to involve thousands of children and educators from across Cyprus in staging theatrical performances.

At the ceremony on April 10th, Gymnasiums that excelled will be honoured, and the theatrical performance of “Iphigenia” by Euripides will be presented by the Apostolos Pavlos Gymnasium from Paphos.

The ceremony on April 11th will be dedicated to the Lyceums that stood out, featuring a student theatrical performance by the Pancyprian Gymnasium of Sophocles’ “Oedipus Tyrannus.”

The decision of the co-organisers to give schools that won the first prize the opportunity to present their performances from the honorary stage of THOC was warmly embraced. Both schools were eventually chosen through a draw.

Through the children who will perform on THOC’s stage, the organisers honour all the teams that participated in the school competitions, as well as each child and educator individually.

During the ceremony on April 11th, educator Stavros Antonopoulos will also be awarded, continuing the tradition of annually honouring an educator who has contributed significantly to the School Theatre Competitions.

Both ceremonies fall under the umbrella of “Theatre in Palm,” a platform supporting young artists.

Due to the large number of participants, the ceremonies are not open to the public.
