Three people — a Nigerian man, a British woman and Ukrainian woman will stand trial in Paphos for defrauding a 63 year old teacher of €117,000.
The case was submitted to Paphos District Court on Friday. A fourth person, a 60 year old Cypriot who had initially been arrested in connection with the same case, will testify for the prosecution. Police are looking for a 39 year old Nigerian.
The teacher had reported to police that she had met someone on Facebook who defrauded her of the money under various pretexts. He had told her he was a British doctor working for the UN in Syria, that he feared for his life and that he would be sending her his salary — though later a friend of his contacted her saying he needed money in order to travel. The two had also discussed marriage.
The three people to stand trial are holders of the bank accounts in which the money was found.
