Tatar proposes property exchange through EVKAF

Relevant News

Ersin Tatar proposes the exchange of properties of the EVKAF Foundation located in the areas under the control of the Republic of Cyprus.

The leader of the occupied territories approaches this issue within the framework of a two-state solution, suggesting that the properties of the EVKAF Foundation be exchanged for properties in the occupied territories (possibly state or ecclesiastical property).

Tatar’s position in this case may be related to the properties of the EVKAF Foundation, but his approach touches more broadly on the property aspect of the Cyprus issue.

It seems that the Turkish side aims for a broader exchange of properties between the two sides. An exchange that will also lead to some form of resolution of the thorny property issue.

In an article, the Turkish Cypriot newspaper “Kıbrıs” (source GTP) reported on statements by Ersin Tatar, who claimed that there is a matter of exchanging the properties of the EVKAF Foundation located in the “southern Cyprus”, as he referred to the areas controlled by the Republic, and reiterated the claim that there are two separate peoples and two separate states in Cyprus.

He added that if there is an agreement, it will be based on sovereignty, and according to this, the property issue will also be settled.

During a speech on the occasion of the 453rd anniversary of the establishment of the EVKAF Foundation in Cyprus and the 68th anniversary of the transfer of administration of the EVKAF Foundation from the British Colonial Administration to the Turkish Cypriot community, Tatar argued that the properties in the occupied territories should be utilised and used with the same perspective in exchange for the properties that remained in “southern Cyprus”.

According to Tatar, the administration of the EVKAF Foundation stands by those in need, and behind the administration of the EVKAF Foundation is “the state of the TRNC”.

Greeting those who serve the “country” and the EVKAF Foundation, Tatar wished for these efforts to continue, which he described as very important “for the new generations to root themselves in these lands”.

He claimed that the first act of Sultan Selim II after the completion of the conquest of Cyprus on August 1, 1571, was the establishment of the administration of the institutions (EVKAF) and argued that “the stamp of Sultan Selim Khan was placed to root and exist in these lands”.
