President Christodoulides is expected to hear from his personal envoy, Secretary-General Maria Angela Holguín Cuéllar, about the results of her recent contacts and her thoughts on the next steps, stated Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis to CNA.

Holguín’s meeting with the President was scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, and with the Turkish Cypriot leader, Ersin Tatar, at noon.

In recent days, Guterres’ personal envoy has had a marathon of contacts in Athens, London, Brussels, Paris, Berlin, and Moscow, while yesterday she met in Ankara with the Turkish Foreign Minister.

The Government Spokesperson told CNA that a second meeting with Holguín has already been scheduled, and she will remain on the island until May 14.

Letymbiotis reiterated the importance of linking the Euro-Turkish relations to progress in Cyprus and the positive message sent by Nicosia and the EU.

Asked to comment on the Turkish Cypriot leader’s recent statements that federation is not an option, the Spokesperson once again emphasized that the Greek Cypriot side remains committed to the agreed framework for a solution, and this commitment is unwavering.

“We do not expect progress to come through public statements, but through initiatives such as, for example, the measures towards our Turkish Cypriot compatriots that we announced in January and the Euro-Turkish relations,” he said.

Responding to a question about scheduling a National Council meeting, he stated that it will be convened when the circumstances differ from the previous National Council, as has been the case until now.

Letymbiotis mentioned that in anticipation of Prime Minister Mitsotakis’ visit to Turkey, necessary coordination will take place within the framework of the continuous Athens-Nicosia contact in an effort to restart negotiations.
