Over 700,000 voters registered as Cyprus gears up for June elections

With the upcoming elections fast approaching, the focus turns to the electorate as the Chief Returning Officer releases the latest registration figures.

A total of 706,534 individuals are eligible to cast their votes.

The permanent electoral roll, which grants participation in all elections, boasts 568,608 Cypriot electors. This includes 837 Turkish Cypriots, highlighting a degree of ethnic diversity in the voting population.

The breakdown across Cyprus’ districts reveals interesting trends:

Nicosia takes the lead with 220,593 Cypriot electors, followed by Limassol at 159,442.

Famagusta, Larnaca, and Paphos also contribute substantial numbers, with over 33,000, 99,000, and 54,000 electors, respectively.

In terms of Turkish Cypriot participation, Limassol and Larnaca exhibit the highest numbers, with 238 and 249 registered voters, respectively.

Special electoral rolls exist for European citizens residing in Cyprus. For the Local Authority Elections, 21,676 European electors are registered, with the highest concentration in Paphos, at 9,275.

Meanwhile, the election of Members of the European Parliament sees 13,017 European citizens ready to cast their ballots. Moreover, 103,269 Turkish Cypriots, holders of Cypriot identity cards, who reside in areas beyond the Republic’s control can vote in the EU elections.

Furthermore, 4,725 electors have opted to vote in the Election of Members of the European Parliament from abroad, with polling stations set up in cities across Greece, the UK and Belgium.

These are Athens, Thessaloniki, Patra, Komotini, Volos, Ioannina, Manchester, London, Birmingham, Glasgow and Brussels.
