Migrant boat arrives in Protaras, fourteenth in eight days

Relevant News

A vessel carrying 22 migrants, including 15 men, three women, and four unaccompanied minors, was intercepted off the coast of Capo Greco on Friday, April 5, at approximately midday.

The boat was directed to the Golden Coast fishing shelter in Protaras, where authorities registered the people before transferring them to the Pournara First Reception Centre in Kokkinotrimithia.

Police arrested a 44-year-old man on suspicion of being the boat’s navigator. He is expected to appear before the Ammochostos District Court in Paralimni on Saturday for a detention hearing.

This marks the fifteenth migrant vessel to arrive in Cyprus since last Sunday, bringing the total number of migrants to 808.

Port and Marine Police are continuing investigations as radar signals suggest the presence of three more vessels potentially carrying migrants towards the island’s shores.
