Low-income pensioners who will receive Easter allowance

Relevant News

The proposal by the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Marilena Evangelou, to increase the Easter Allowance by 30% compared to last year for beneficiaries of the Low-Income Pension Support Scheme, was approved today by the Cabinet.

The Cabinet also decided not to apply the criterion related to the Easter Allowance regarding the amount of deposits, which was limited from €100,000 to €30,000, introduced in the New Low-Income Pension Scheme on 01/01/2023, aiming to not reduce the number of beneficiaries.

It is noted that the Christodoulides Government did not apply this specific criterion during the previous year.

This decision follows a series of other decisions by the Christodoulides Government to support population groups, including Low-Income Pensioners, with a one-off financial assistance of €100 per month from April to June.

Under these conditions, this year’s Easter Allowance amounts to €250 per pensioner and will be paid to those low-income pensioners whose income does not exceed:

(a) €7,000 for single households, or

(b) €12,000 for households with two people.

It is noted that the income limit is adjusted according to the household composition, meaning it increases by €2,100 for each dependent child under 14 years old and by €3,500 for each dependent child over 14 years old.

The number of low-income pensioners benefiting from the Easter Allowance is around 13,500, with the expected expenditure at €3.3 million.

The Easter Allowance will be deposited into the beneficiaries’ accounts via bank transfer on 30th April 2024.
