Leading transportation company set strengthen fleet with Cypriot-flagged vessels

Relevant News

Cyprus has secured a commitment from one of the world’s leading transportation companies, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), to bolster its fleet with Cypriot-flagged vessels, announced Marina Hatzimanolis, the Deputy Minister of Shipping.

During her official visit to Japan from January 9 to 12, Deputy Minister Hatzimanolis engaged in targeted efforts to promote and showcase the advantages of Cyprus’ shipping industry.

The objective was to attract companies to Cyprus and encourage the registration of vessels in the Cypriot registry.

While in Japan, the Deputy Minister met with shipowners, maritime company executives, chartering offices, financial institutions, and shipyards.

She took the opportunity to present the competitive framework of benefits and services offered by ship registration under the Cypriot flag, as well as the advantages of establishing a maritime company in Cyprus.

In a meeting with Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), one of the global leaders in the transportation sector, the company affirmed its intention to strengthen its fleet with Cypriot-flagged vessels.

This practical move demonstrates the company’s confidence in the Cyprus registry.

On January 11, the Deputy Minister attended the naming ceremonies of two newly-built cargo ships owned by Safe Bulkers.

The vessels, constructed according to the highest standards and modern environmental specifications, will be registered in the Cypriot ship registry, further enhancing the company’s fleet with the Cypriot flag.

The two ships have been named ‘Amochostos’ and ‘Kyrenia’ in a symbolic act of remembrance by the company, almost 50 years after Turkey’s invasion of Cyprus.

Ms. Hatzimanolis expressed gratitude to Mr. Polys Haji-Ioannou, owner of Safe Bulkers, for the continuous support to the Cypriot registry and the symbolic naming of the vessels.
