Hazardous dust persists in Cyprus with more on Holy Week, as 30s remain

A low pressure system, coupled with a warm air current are affecting the area. African dust will continue to plague the island, with the Meteorological Service warning that concentrations of harmful PM10 particles will be high at times during this Palm Sunday. The phenomenon will persist in the run up to Easter, as tomorrow and Holy Tuesday are cited by the Met Service as the most problematic in terms of concentrations.

It’s not all dust though. Overcast skies will bring isolated light showers mainly on the mountains. Winds will be light to moderate south-westerly to north-westerly, force three to four, later turning moderate in the west, force four, over slight seas. Temperatures will rise to 30 degrees Celsius inland, 27 on the south and eastern coastal regions, 25 in the rest of the coastal areas and 20 on the mountains.

Cloudy this evening, with light to moderate, mostly north-westerly winds, force three to four, over slight seas. Temperatures will drop to 17 degrees Celsius inland, 18 in coastal regions and 15 on the mountains.

Tomorrow, Holy Monday, high cloud is forecast, with the possibility of isolated light showers mainly on the mountains. On Holy Tuesday and Wednesday, overcast skies will bring isolated showers or a storm, mostly on the mountains, but also certain inland areas.

Temperatures will remain in the low 30s for most of the week, with a slight drop on Holy Wednesday, May Day, but still higher than the seasonal average.
