Greek soldier, 23, undergoes hand amputation after Cyprus training accident

A 23-year-old soldier serving in the Hellenic Force in Cyprus (ELDYK) was subjected to amputation of his right hand following an injury from a grenade explosion during army training in the area of Agios Modestos, near Stavrovouni.

According to reports, the young man, after being injured, was transferred to a private clinic in Nicosia where he underwent surgery.

Despite the efforts of the doctors, they were unable to save his right hand, leading to amputation.

He was also injured in the face from the explosion, resulting in a second surgery on his eye.

The 23-year-old is currently hospitalised on a ventilator, with the possibility of undergoing a third surgery to clean his hand.

It is reminded that the Ministry of Defense stated in an announcement that an investigation is underway to determine the causes of the accident.
