Eight remanded in custody for Anthoupoli murder attempt

Relevant News

Eight suspects charged with the attempted murder of 34-year-old Dimitris Andronikou will be held in custody until their first Assize Court appearance on July 5.

The Nicosia District Court granted the prosecution’s request for continued detention. Only the first defendant, a 46-year-old man represented by lawyer Viktoras Akamas, contested this request.

The judge’s decision cited concerns regarding flight risk, offence severity, and potential witness tampering.

The indictment against the eight defendants includes twelve charges, primarily focusing on conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit a felony.

Additional charges involve possession of unlicensed firearms, explosives, and stolen property. Specific charges include illegal property possession (third defendant), assault on a law enforcement officer (sixth defendant), and cannabis possession (fourth defendant, 16 grams).

A total of 125 individuals are listed as potential witnesses.
