Dust over safety levels but showers in the afternoon and tomorrow

Relevant News

A hazardous layer of dust is persisting in the atmosphere over many areas of the island this morning, but the phenomenon is set to subside as isolated showers were expected late afternoon, with a low pressure system affecting the country.

At eight, Pm10 particle measurements were almost double the 50 microgram safety levels in Paralimni (86), with 60 in Larnaca and just over the 50 mark in Nicosia and Larnaca. According to the forecast however, overcast skies later in the day will bring isolated showers and even storms mainly in the eastern half of Cyprus, clearing out the dust.

Winds will be light to moderate southwesterly to northwesterly, force three to four and strong force four to five in the west and south, over slight seas and moderate in the west. Temperatures will rise to 19 Celsius inland and in coastal regions, with 10 on the mountains.

Isolated showers are possible this evening. Winds will be light northwesterly three to four over slight seas. Temperatures will drop to 6 degrees Celsius inland, 10 in coastal regions and on the mountains, where frost is expected to form.

More isolated showers coming our way tomorrow mostly inland and over the mountains, with clear skies initially on Tuesday and then gradually increasingly overcast, with the possibility of showers. Similar outlook on Wednesday across most of the island.

There will be a gradual rise of temperatures through to Tuesday and then a slight drop on Wednesday, near the seasonal average.
