A dispute stemming from Cyprus’s local elections has escalated after a DISY municipal councillor and the mayor of Dromolaxia-Meneou filed cross-complaints of assault.
Councillor Savvas Kyriakou alleges that Mayor Kypros Andronikou headbutted him during a confrontation at a cafe on Easter Tuesday.
Mayor Andronikou has filed a counter-complaint alleging assault by the councillor and his wife.
Police are investigating the incident, which occurred in public view, and are reviewing CCTV footage.
This follows an earlier report by Kyriakou of vandalism to his vehicle on Easter Monday.
The councillor suspects the vandalism was politically motivated.
Kyriakou claims to have identified suspects and believes the incidents are intended to intimidate him.
