President Nicos Anastasiades will chair a Saturday morning meeting with the epidemiological team advising the government on covid-19 in view of the sharp increase of cases over the past 48 hours.
The Health Ministry announced a record 104 new confirmed cases on Thursday while 51 were announced on Wednesday and 83 on Tuesday.
Anastasiades, who is in Brussels for the EU summit, has urged Cypriot citizens in a tweet to strictly observe measures aimed to contain the spread of the novel virus.
“I appeal to all my fellow citizens: At this time we have to show strength once more, we have to meticulously observe hygiene measures and wear our mask in order to protect our family, our loved ones, but also ourselves”, he wrote.
He is returning to Cyprus later on Friday.
