Cyprus drops in World Happiness Report, while Finland takes top spot

Relevant News

Cyprus has fallen from 46th to 50th place in the annual World Happiness Report, according to a survey of 143 countries conducted by the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network.

Finland, meanwhile, has topped the list for the seventh consecutive year, while Afghanistan remains in last place.

The report, which has been published since 2012, also found that Greece has fallen six places from 58th to 64th place this year.

Scandinavian countries continue to dominate the top of the rankings, with Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden following closely behind Finland.

This year’s report is the first to include separate data for different age groups, and it brings bad news about how satisfied young people are with their lives in some parts of the world.

The World Happiness Report is a publication that contains articles and rankings of national happiness, based on respondent ratings of their own lives, which the report also correlates with various (quality of) life factors.

From 2024, the report is a publication of the Wellbeing Research Centre at the University of Oxford. Until then, the report was a publication of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network, a global initiative of the United Nations.

The report primarily uses data from the Gallup World Poll.
