Call to suspend legal costs in Astrasol case

Relevant News

A letter to the Ministry of Finance calling for the suspension of the payment of legal costs at least for the public involved in the Astrasol case until a decision is made by the European Court of Human Rights will be sent by the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights.

In a brief discussion about the case, it was recalled that initially, residents of the area had been vindicated regarding the relationship between increased cancer incidents and the factory’s pollution.

However, the Attorney General objected, and on appeal, the residents lost the case due to procedural errors being identified, resulting in them being called upon today to pay several thousand euros in legal expenses.

Following this development, those involved appealed to the European Court of Human Rights.

Expressing their outrage, they speak of the price they have paid with cancer incidents, noting that in a very small area adjacent to the factory, 47 people have lost their lives to cancer and another 67 are ill.
