The Cabinet approved a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture for the payment of compensations amounting to 4.5 million euros to 1,300 beneficiaries for damages they suffered. The compensations to the beneficiaries will be disbursed in the first ten days of May.
As announced by the responsible Minister, Maria Panayiotou, the damages pertained to deciduous and seasonal crops that were caused during 2023 by adverse weather conditions, mainly hail, and the compensations are granted through the Agricultural Production Protection and Insurance Fund.
The compensations to the beneficiaries will be paid within the first ten days of May, she added.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Environment, the responsible Minister added, “is working on a series of tools to expedite the payment of compensations when damages occur so that the coverage of farmers’ income loss is more immediate and objective.”
