Relevant News

Ancient bones continue to be excavated during ongoing works for the construction of the Sewerage Board of Limassol’s flood prevention project in the heart of the coastal city – specifically in Tziamouda area.

Philenews also reported on Tuesday that the latest find took place on Saturday at a depth of 50 cm from the roadway.

On Tuesday, archaeologists from the Department of Antiquities will continue with excavations that have  already brought to the surface two dead bodies whose bones are very visible.

In previous months, two other ancient tombs of the Late Bronze Age (17th-11th century BC) had been identified. The area where they were excavated is of archaeological importance and has been known for decades.

However, the latest discovery does not seem to be related to the two previous graves.

The discovery of antiquities in the area of Tziamouda was something that had been foreseen by the Board and the Department of Antiquities at the planning stage of the project.

That is why the presence of an archaeologist during construction works is continuous, with the aim of both protecting the antiquities and ensuring the uninterrupted continuation of the construction works in case archaeological finds are discovered.
