AKEL calls on the President of the Republic to convene a National Council in order to inform the political forces about the content of the proposals made by the UN Secretary-General, which, as they note, have already been accepted by Nikos Christodoulides, and to present their views.
“The President of the Republic referred yesterday to proposals presented to him by the UN Secretary-General during their meeting in Brussels, which he has indeed accepted. He added that he hopes they will also be accepted by the Turkish Cypriot leadership in the meeting that Ersin Tatar will have with the UN Secretary-General on the 5th of April in New York.
AKEL reiterates the importance of the National Council as the space for information and exchange of views among political leadership in relation to the Cyprus issue,” concludes the statement.
