Until today, 7,500 new voters have registered on the electoral rolls, stated Menelaos Vasiliou, the Head of the Electoral Service, to CNA, adding that the number will increase even more and will surpass the presidential elections of 2023.

According to Vasiliou, the last day for registration on the electoral roll, as well as for submitting declarations for voting at overseas polling stations, is the 2nd of April 2024.

As he mentioned, the peculiarity of the June 9th elections lies in the fact that for the first time eight elections will be held simultaneously.

Specifically, elections will be held for the members of the European Parliament, Mayors, Deputy Mayors, Municipal Councils, Community leaders, members of Community Councils, Presidents of District Local Authorities, and members of School Boards.

In the upcoming elections for the Members of the European Parliament and Local Authorities, voting rights are granted to all citizens of the Republic aged 18 and over who have their usual residence in Cyprus, as well as citizens of other EU member states residing in Cyprus and registered in the relevant electoral rolls.

Regarding the number of voters, there are special lists for Cypriots, European Union nationals, and Turkish Cypriots.

“So far, we have 569,086 registered, of which 557,578 concern the permanent electoral roll, i.e., Cypriots, which includes 735 Turkish Cypriots. We have the special electoral roll of European citizens residing in Cyprus for local government, which amounts to 11,559, and the special roll of Europeans for the European elections, which numbers 9,190. We have the special roll for Turkish Cypriots residing in the occupied areas, which currently numbers 82,925,” he said.

In the 2019 European Parliament elections, the number of Cypriot voters in the Nicosia district was 274,453, with 3,025 communal voters, totaling 277,478 with a participation rate of 42.83%.

In the Limassol district, the number of Cypriot voters was 153,007, with 1,489 communal voters, totaling 154,496, with a participation rate of 47.00%.

In the Larnaca district, the number of Cypriot voters was 100,221, with 1,358 communal voters, totaling 101,579, with a participation rate of 48.38%.

In the Paphos district, the number of Cypriot voters was 50,300, with 3,988 communal voters, totaling 54,288, with a participation rate of 49.29%.

Abroad, the number of Cypriot voters was 6,135, with a participation rate of 62.54%.

Regarding polling stations, it is estimated that around 1,850 will operate. Polling stations are expected to operate abroad, in Greece, England, and Belgium.

On April 24th, nominations for the European elections will be submitted, on April 25th for municipal councils, Presidents of District Local Authorities, and members of School Boards, and on April 29th for communal councils.

The approved budget for the election expenditure is €6,650,000.

Vote counting will take place at the local polling stations.

As for the latest results, it is too early for any estimation since they will involve the results of eight elections on the same night.

However, the initial results will be announced within an hour and a half after the polls close.
