Inflation hits Valentine’s Day goods

The data for January 2024, collected by CyStat, show an increase of 0.7% to 9.7% in the prices of basic products/services on this Valentine’s Day, compared to last year.

According to CyStat, “Inflation is driving up prices on almost every item considered a staple of the day.”

The largest increase at 9.7% is in jewellery prices, compared to January 2023, followed by hotel and motel prices with a 9.5% annual increase, prices in chocolates at 7.7% and hair salon prices at 6.3%.

An increase of 5.7% is recorded in personal care treatments, 5.6% in restaurant and café prices, 5.2% in plants and flowers and a 3.8% increase in confectionery items.

Smaller annual increases were registered for wine prices (2.1%), women’s clothing (1.6%), men’s clothing (1%) and watches (0.7%).

Prices at cinemas, theatres and concerts dropped by 0.1% and prices of stationery by 3.4%.
