January-October tourism revenue slips an annual 1.1%

Tourism revenue in the first 10 months of 2019 slipped by an annual 1.1%,  the first such drop since 2014.

According to figures released by the Statistical Service on Friday based on the results of the Passenger Survey, revenue from tourism in the period of January to October 2019 is estimated at €2.5334 b compared to €2.5623 b in the corresponding period of 2018.

Expenditure per person for the period of January – October 2019 was down 1.8% at €685.22 compared to €697.54 in the corresponding period of the previous year.

However expenditure per person/per day actually edged up 0.4% — from €75.82 to €76.14 — in the same period compared to the period of January – October 2018.

As regards October, CyStat said tourism revenue reached €299.4m compared to €293.8m in the same month the previous year, recording an increase of 1.9%.

Ehe expenditure per person for October 2019 reached €685.82 compared to €677.60 in October 2018, up 1.2%. The expenditure per person/per day for October 2019 compared to October 2018 also recorded an increase of 1.2% (from €76.13 to €77.06).

The average length of stay in October remained the same as last year (8.9 days).
