The two teenagers, aged 17 and 18, who were injured in a road collision in Ayia Napa, did not wear protective helmets, with the 17-year-old motorcycle rider being treated in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.

In statements, Steve Theodoulou, spokesperson for the Ammochostos Police Department, said, “Around 10:30 pm on Sunday, 21st April, a road collision occurred in Ayia Napa. According to the information available to the police, an 18-year-old motorcycle rider from Ayia Napa was on Kavo Greko Avenue heading towards Ayia Napa, with a 17-year-old passenger from Paralimni. At some point on the road, near the turnoff to Kryo Nero, under conditions being investigated, he lost control of the motorcycle, causing it to overturn.”

He added, “Both teenagers were injured in the collision, with the 17-year-old passenger sustaining more serious injuries. The 18-year-old rider was taken to a private clinic in Ayia Napa, where it was found he had rib fractures and abrasions in various parts of his body. He was kept under observation.”

“The 17-year-old passenger was transported by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital in Paralimni, where he was diagnosed with a severe traumatic brain injury. After intubation, he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital, with his condition described as critical.”

Theodoulou stated, “The 18-year-old rider was tested for alcohol with a zero reading and also underwent a drug test with a negative result. From police investigations, it was found that neither of the two teenagers wore protective helmets, and the 18-year-old did not have a driving license or insurance.”

The scene was diagrammed and photographed by members of the Ammochostos and Ayia Napa Traffic Police.

The causes of the collision are being investigated by the Ayia Napa Police Station.
