A would-be kiosk thief is under arrest in Paphos after he fled, chased by the woman owner with a mop.
Reports said a hooded man entered a Paphos kiosk just before midnight on Tuesday, brandishing a knife and demanding money from the cash register.
The fifty-four year old woman owner, who was cleaning before closing for the night, fended him off with her mop. He fled onto the street where he was spotted by a passer-by who started shouting. Minutes later he was picked up by a police patrol.
He reportedly admitted to the botched robbery, handing over the knife and showing police where he had thrown away the hood and gloves he had been wearing. The same reports said he had told police he had been driven to the offence because of his gambling addiction.
