Takis Pattichis Museum of Industrial Pharmacy celebrates second anniversary

Relevant News

The Takis Pattichis Museum of Industrial Pharmacy, a unique institution dedicated to the history of pharmaceutical manufacturing, marked its second anniversary.

Established in April 2022 by the Charalambos & Elena Pattihis Foundation, the museum is the first of its kind worldwide, showcasing an array of exhibits from the Cypriot pharmaceutical industry.

Named in honour of Takis Pattichis, who is regarded as the father of the Cypriot pharmaceutical industry, the museum commemorates his pioneering efforts from the 1960s to establish Cyprus as a hub for pharmaceutical production and export.

Visitors to the museum can explore five categories of scientific exhibits:

  1. Production Machinery
  2. Laboratory Equipment
  3. Weighing Instruments
  4. In-Process Controls
  5. Books, Manuals & Other Publications

The collection includes everything from vintage weighing instruments dating back over a century to advanced laboratory equipment used in modern drug manufacturing, such as spectrophotometers and chromatograph.

Highlights include a semi-automatic suppository line recently added as part of the museum’s ongoing five-year enhancement programme.

The museum also serves as an educational resource, offering tours for students and researchers from around the world. These tours provide a practical glimpse into the application of theoretical knowledge in pharmacy, chemistry, and related sciences.

The main exhibits have a description in Greek and English as well as a QR code that opens a designated webpage with photos and information about each one.

The Takis Pattihis Museum of Industrial Pharmacy is a cultural contribution of the Charalambos & Elena Pattihis Foundation (www.pattihisfoundation.cy) and admission is free of charge.

In addition, every year the Museum organises educational tours for schools, universities, and academic institutions not only from Cyprus but also from the whole world. It offers the opportunity for students interested in Pharmacy, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and/or Technology and Engineering to see first-hand how theory is applied in the professional field.

The Museum is located in the Carob Mill in the Limassol Old City Centre and is open 6 days a week, Tuesday to Sunday, except public holidays.
