Larnaca’s popular moon sculpture to be brought down due to anticipated storms

Luke Jerram’s moon sculpture at Zouhouri Square in Larnaca is set to be dismantled on Saturday, November 18, as a precautionary measure due to expected adverse weather conditions.

On Friday, the organisers announced the complete cancellation of the children’s programme on Saturday due to the inclement weather, expressing their regret and stressing that the health and safety of the public is a priority.

In addressing those who have already purchased tickets for the planetarium, they stated, “We apologise, but foremost, we value the health and safety of everyone. For those who have already paid for the planetarium, you have received an email if you wish to request a refund.”

“Please note that if you do not proceed with a refund request, all proceeds will be donated to the non-profit organisation Adults with Disabilities RIGHTS HOPE, which was established with the primary goal of operating a modern Day Center for People with Disabilities (PWD) over the age of 21,” the organisers Once in a Blue Moon and Wonderdots said.

They added that visitors can enjoy the installation on Friday night, with free admission.

“We will keep you informed about Sunday’s programme,” they said.

Despite the impending removal of the moon sculpture, tonight, like previous nights, Zouhouri Square witnessed an influx of people from across Cyprus.

The Department of Meteorology has issued a yellow warning for tomorrow saying it expects thunderstorms, hail and up to gale-level winds, especially in coastal areas.
