With temperatures climbing to 30 C, the Forestry Department has urged the public to be particularly careful and to avoid any actions or activities that may cause a fire.
It said that already there were two forest fires, one in Ayios Ioannis in Paphos on Good Friday and one in Pachyamos yesterday, Good Saturday.
Burning grass, cuttings and rubbish is prohibited. The use in the countryside of tools and agricultural equipment which produce heat, sparks or flames, should be avoided. Special care should be taken on preventive measures to avoid sparking a fire from the use of generators and water pumps in the countryside.
The Forestry Department added that given the difficulties and special circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was inconceivable that someone should spark a fire.
It said the public should be careful and warned that it will strictly enforce the law.
Anyone who sees smoke or fire near or close to a forest should notify the closest forestry station or telephone 1407 (Forestry Department) or 112 (Fire Service).
