Volunteers say living conditions at Pournara migrant center lousy

People at the Pournara migrant center in Kokkinotrimithia live in lousy conditions, volunteers reported in a letter to Interior Minister Nikos Nouris.

According to the letter, some people have been wearing the same clothes for months, while some women do not even have sanitary towels. It is also noted that during the past months, some clothes were donated for the center’s migrants but it seems that they have not received them.

The letter, which was also sent to the House Interior Committee, reported that the number of residents keeps increasing since almost nobody leaves, the proper infrastructures for more than 1,300 people do not exist, these migrants lack basic goods necessary for their descent way of life.

Yesterday, the migrants living in Pournara center protested both about the conditions of their detention and about their living conditions.

Several migrants holding banners with the word “Freedom” on them asked the government to let them get out of the center. The protest was peaceful and there were no incidents.
