Two men aged 48 and 29 were remanded in custody for six days by Paphos District Court on Tuesday after being caught breaking into cars at Coral Bay the previous day.
Police said the two were spotted smashing the car window of a rental car and stealing its contents by an off duty police officer who called in reinforcements. They were stopped by the off duty officer and a police patrol that had sped to the area as they were leaving the parking area. One of the two tried to get away on foot, but was apprehended, the court heard.
They were remanded in connection with three cases of malicious damage to and theft from cars committed on Monday during which cameras, mobile telephones, clothing and other goods worth 3,000 euro were stolen. Police said that two other members of the public had gone to Peyia police station on Monday and reported malicious damage and theft from their cars.
