Unsettled weather continues with more rain and thunderstorms

Low pressure will continue to affect the region until Saturday morning and today will be cloudy at intervals with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.  Thunderstorms may be accompanied by hail.

Panayiotis Mouskos of the Met Office said thunderstorms are expected in some areas of  Cyprus today, but the extreme weather conditions will weaken by tonight.

He said thunderstorms were forecast for the west which will also affect the south, and later in the afternoon may affect the interior.

“We will have thunderstorms today as well in some areas until late in the evening, when slowly, slowly the phenomena will recede eastwards,” he told the Cyprus News Agency.

Hail was likely to accompany the thunderstorms, he said while the wind force will be 4 Beaufort, and in some areas perhaps 5-6 Beaufort.

The system will weaken tonight. “In the early hours of Saturday we may have some rain but by noon to afternoon the weather will improve,” he said.

Earlier, the met office said that there will also be light dust in the atmosphere which will recede on Saturday.

Temperatures today will be 19 C inland and on the coast and around 11 C in the mountains.

Saturday will be partly cloudy at intervals with isolated showers in the morning.

On Sunday and Monday clouds at intervals may lead to isolated showers. Temperatures will edge up by Monday to close to average for the time of year.
