Volunteers have called for the donation of food coupons or aid packages during Easter Holy Week for university students and other youth in need all across Cyprus.
The call came in view of the seventh consecutive “Adopt a family in Easter” campaign carried out by the Pancyprian Association of Volunteers.
Elias Dimitriou who heads the campaign told Philenews the situation this year has worsened because of the Covid pandemic with more and more young people reportedly in need.
Households this year record shortages of even the most basic goods and what is new this year is that young people and students are crying out for help, he added.
Young people and students are particularly vulnerable from the pandemic because they were largely employed in catering as waiters.
However, due to the pandemic and restrictive measures they lost their jobs and income. At the same time, their families and once their protective network are also facing financial problems.
