UNFICYP stepping up patrols after incident in Pyla

The United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) expresses concern over an incident in Pyla and is stepping up patrols after the detonation of a small explosive device caused damage to a bakery.

“Today at around 3.00am a small explosive device was detonated outside a bakery in the bi-communal village of Pyla. The explosion caused minor damage to property; thankfully, no injuries to persons were reported” says an UNFICYP press statement.

Furthermore, UNFICYP “is very concerned by this incident” and says that perpetrators must be brought to justice.

“The mission is monitoring the situation closely and has stepped up patrols by our peacekeepers in the area to ensure that calm and stability is maintained” the announcement concludes.
