UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres will head off to Geneva over the weekend to host next week’s Geneva conference on Cyprus that he will be hosting in person.
This is what his spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, told a press briefing in New York on Tuesday.
The informal five-plus-one summit dedicated to the Cyprus issue on April 27-29 aims to lead to the resumption of reunification talks.
Cyprus has been divided since a 1974 invasion by Turkey which still maintains troops in the breakaway northern part of the EU-member island.
Repeated rounds of UN-led peace talks have so far failed to yield results.
