The National Federation of Cypriots in the UK have expressed concern at the heavy toll the coronavirus pandemic is taking on the British Cypriot community.
It said that about 115 UK Cypriots have died so far which is 2% of total deaths in the UK even though the British Cypriot community accounts for only 0.7% of the population in the UK.
It has set up a portal www.cypriotfederation.org.uk/covid19support to offer support, including contact details of the 40 youth volunteers who have offered to take food supplies from supermarkets to the elderly.
Also featured are lists of teachers, options for home deliveries from UK Cypriot owned groceries and other information.
Those needing help should email [email protected] or telephone 02084459999. Moreover, under the auspices of the Foreign Ministry, 4300 food parcels were distributed to Cypriot students in the UK.
The federation said it wanted to also give food parcels with traditional Cypriot foodstuff to vulnerable UK Cypriots and called on those who were aware of such cases to telephone 02084459999.
Those who donate should do through the website and for donations above £250 send an email to [email protected].
