Two women, a 46-year-old Russian and a 44-year-old Belorussian, were detained in connection with illegal prostitution and suspected human trafficking, after a Limassol police raid on Friday.
According to Phileleftheros, authorities were tipped about ‘suspicious activities’ in a flat in Germasogeia and started keeping it under surveillance.
On Friday, the man who tipped the police, booked an appointment with one of the women, to facilitate the entry of the police to the flat.
During the raid, officers confiscated €6000 in cash, a number of condoms, various lubricants, sex toys and 0.5 gr of cocaine.
After being interviewed, the two women were taken to a Nicosia refuge for victims of human trafficking.
Police is suspecting that an organised human trafficking network is behind the case and that the women might not have been working alone.
