The big front of the fire that broke out earlier today between the communities of Giolou and Simou remains uncontrolled forcing the Fire Service to evacuate houses in Giolou and Drynia.
Several fire engines plus eight helicopters are struggling to control the fire plus two helicopters of the British Bases. Personnel on leave have been requested to assist while additional help has been requested from the Fire Services in Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca.
The situation in Simou is equally difficult with the fire burning trees, dry weeds and vegetation but fortunately without threatening houses for the time being.
The work of the Fire Service has become very difficult due to the strong winds in the area.
The Fire Services are assisted by the two helicopters Kamov 32 that the Republic is renting but the winds in the area do not help their work.
