Three exemptions in minimum national wage by law in Cyprus

A minimum national wage by law which is expected to be approved by parliament soon and enforced at a later stage has three exemptions, Philenews reported on Friday.

Agricultural workers, domestic help – the lowest paid individuals in Cyprus – as well as sailors, who have their own collective agreement, will not be covered by the National Minimum Wage bill.

This is what Labour Minister Zeta Emilianidou has confirmed, adding that the draft bill should be approved before the end of May.

But there will be a period of adjustment in the labour market and especially in companies before it is enforced.

After another meeting on Thursday of the Minister with the Labour Advisory Board she said the bill will be a major reform.

The Labour Advisory Board is an advisory body bringing together employers organisations and trade unions.

Cyprus is one of the few EU member states without a minimum national wage, although some professions are covered.
